At Our Farm
|
Welcome to our website. We are very glad you have taken the time
to visit and that you are interested in working with horses.
A little about the farm...
The property comprises about 130 acres, and is bounded by
Whitehall Rd., Township Line Rd., and Potshop Rd. in
Worcester Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The
highlight of the property is the main barn building, which is
completely heated. It features two wings of 40 stalls on either
side of a 250 X 90 heated indoor arena. There is a detached
smaller barn of 20 stalls immediately adjacent, and about 30 other
stalls in various outbuildings, with all the necessary equipment
and hay storage convenient to the main facility. An
impressive series of fenced pastures and paddocks for daily
turnout, outdoor jumping course, outdoor lit arena with all
weather footing, and adjacent hacking trails are all right here,
along with heated shower stalls and an equine swim therapy pool
for fitness or rehab. Visitors, guests and students enjoy our
huge, beautifully decorated lounge with gas fireplace, fully
equipped kitchen, viewing windows onto the arena, big screen TV
and video (useful for equestrian educational gatherings), and
restrooms with shower facilities...its a wonderful bonus.
The focus of the facility has moved strongly in the direction of
equestrian education and boarding. We provide educational, team
and club opportunities for colleges, and even grade and high
school students. Some other local colleges with equestrian teams
and clubs and course offerings are listed the website...IHSA.COM...
which gives excellent insight into the benefits these colleges
enjoy. IHSA is a way college students can compete on a level
playing field...as no one rides "their own" horse in these
competitions, and all competitors are other college students.
Working with horses means different things to different people -
from a relaxing trail ride to a serious and focused push in the
show arena, and for me it means a career I love. But there is a
common theme to working with horses. The theme is about working
in the face of your fears, and pushing yourself physically,
mentally and sometimes emotionally, to higher ground. You can't
fool a horse - they are experts at reading body language. In the
wild their lives depended on it. They do the same with people. If
you want to ride well, you have to earn the respect and trust of
your horse, and you can use what you learn with that in many other
aspects of your life. Physically, there is an overall stretching
and stress that seems to lead to flexibility and tone and
relaxation. The best part about the exercise you get while riding
is most of us think of it as and interesting, challenging and fun
indulgence, and not a chore!
Riding engages so many of your senses that it is an "in the
moment" experience. Its hard to think of your problems while you
are riding your horse. I have personally experienced most of the
outdoor beauty this country has to offer from the back of a
horse. It also has an interesting way of cutting across socio-
economic layers, and you can often find yourself making friends,
thru horses, with all sorts of interesting people you wouldn't
have had the chance to meet otherwise.
A little more about the farm...
There is an on site show series featuring 43 show days a year;
almost all of which are United States Equestrian Federation
rated. We will soon announce a few schooling show days this
year. We offer overnight accomodations for some show dates. There
is an active lesson program. We welcome you to come meet our
happy, healthy lesson horses. We currently accomodate five
qualified instructors, and other instruction levels and
disciplines are available on a scheduled basis.
Come visit with us! We welcome your calls, emails or stop by
anytime.
